¿Ricard, por qué aikidō? ¿Qué tiene el aikidō que no tengan las otras artes marciales?
No sé lo que pueden tener las otras artes marciales, porqué las desconozco. Lo que sé, es que el aikidō me atrajo por su sutileza, elegancia y por todo el trabajo interior que hay detrás. También porqué me encantan las artes de «combate».
¿Crees que el aikidō te ha cambiado como persona? ¿Y si es así, en qué se manifiestan estos cambios? ¿Cuáles son los cambios positivos y cuáles son los «efectos secundarios»?
Sin duda me ha cambiado en todas mis facetas, pero sobretodo me ha abierto los ojos en todas direcciones. Mis prioridades han cambiado y mi forma de ver la vida también ha cambiado, sin hablar de los cambios físicos que son los primeros en aflorar. También es cierto que soy consiente de que estoy dando vueltas a una montaña preciosa pero casi inalcanzable para mí, pero bueno, disfruto jugando a su alrededor y observándola.
Ya hace muchos años que llevas tu propio dōjō; podemos decir que obtuviste el fruto de tu largo trabajo. ¿Cómo lo ves? ¿Es lo que querías formar, o hay algo que te gustaría cambiar? Me refiero también a tus alumnos.
Lo que tu llamas «muchos años» yo lo llamo «calentamiento». Creo que siete años para un dōjō no es nada, aunque estoy contento de ver lo que se esta creando. Cambiar, no cambiaría nada, porque no se trata de si me gusta o no. Si hubiera algo que no me gustara y quisiera cambiarlo lo tendría que hacer yo y no el dōjō o la gente. Yo soy el fundador del dōjō y a su vez el guía para mis alumnos, por lo tanto prefiero fijarme en mí; en este aspecto vosotros sólo sois mi reflejo.
Viendo los videos de Ō-sensei y maestros de actualidad podemos darnos cuenta de que el aikidō ha cambiado mucho. ¿A qué se debe esto? ¿No tienes miedo de que dentro de 30 – 50 años lo que tú enseñas quede «anticuado e inútil»?
Personalmente no creo que el aikidō haya cambiado mucho en todo este tiempo, aunque la gente que lo practica sí, al igual que los tiempos en los que vivimos. Creo que es ese el cambio del que tú hablas, pero es algo lógico y normal. Por otro lado creo que el aikidō, como su técnica o forma de practicar, es atemporal, con lo cual no hay que preocuparse por si me voy a quedar anticuado, como si habláramos de una estatua o algo parecido (se ríe). Creo que siempre habrá público para el aikidō; es más: creo que lo habrá más que nunca.
Tu maestro favorito, y por qué.
Nobuyoshi Tamura sensei. Porqué creo que su aikidō era lo que más se acercaba a Ō-sensei. Era un aikidō muy simple a primera vista, pero lleno de matices muy muy sutiles. Creo que con él se fue uno de los mejores maestros de aikidō de toda la historia.
¿Crees que ya eres un maestro? Y si no lo eres, ¿qué te falta para serlo?
No lo soy, evidentemente. Me falta maestría.
Ricard, hay gente que practica otras artes marciales. ¿Si se inician en el aikidō, les podría dificultar el aprendizaje, o al contrario, les ayudaría la experiencia obtenida en otros dōjōs?
Todo es cuestión de actitud, no de lo que hayan practicado anteriormente. Nuestra actitud definirá nuestra evolución. Si esto se combina con una buena experiencia en otra arte marcial que tenga relación con el aikidō, pues mejor.
Sabemos que muchas artes marciales orientales tienen una profunda base filosófica, hasta podría decirse que mística. ¿Crees que en el aikidō moderno la base filosófica es importante o solamente aprendiendo la técnica y a moverse ya es suficiente para ser un buen aikidōka?
Creo que todo lo filosófico que hay detrás es parte del aikidō y por esta razón es inseparable del mismo. Si sólo fuera una práctica física, se trataría de un deporte. Por otro lado, hay que entender la filosofía del aikidō sin mezclarla con la religión u otros campos. La filosofía del aikidō es parte de lo que nos rodea, al igual que su técnica. Si a eso lo quieres llamar filosofía o mística, tú mismo. Las cosas son lo que son, el nombre que se le pone es lo de menos.
¿Cuál es el sentido del dō (camino) para un occidental?
Esta pregunta es difícil para mí. Aunque sea occidental, estoy en el mundo del aikidō, donde el dō se utiliza con frecuencia y es algo natural. Pero supongo que para otro occidental debe sonar a algo raro, desconocido; o quizás sólo ven una parte del dō, la parte espiritual, demasiado espiritual diría, como si se tratara de algo comprensible sólo por sabios orientales.
Algunos maestros se refieren al zen cuando enseñan aikidō, otros al shintō. ¿Cuál es tu opinión al respecto? ¿Es necesario conocer la cultura japonesa para comprender el aikidō?
Creo que sí. Conocer su cultura, sus religiones y su forma de vivir ayuda mucho a comprender el aikidō. Por otro lado, creo que no hay que mezclar la religión y el aikidō, para no desviar o confundir al practicante, aunque esten muy relacionados. Ō-sensei era muy religioso y evidentemente el shintō, que era su religión, le ayudó en su creación del aikidō. Unir la religión y el aikidō es algo muy personal que cada uno puede escoger o no, pero solamente para sí mismo. Un instructor de aikidō no debería confundir con esto a sus estudiantes.
¿En el aikidō el trabajo de armas es importante?
Creo que el aikidō nace de las armas, como la mayoría de las artes de «mano desnuda» japonesas. También creo que es obvio que el aiki-ken y el aiki-jō, como nos indican sus nombres, tienen relación, es más, son el aikidō con el ken y el aikidō con el jō, y se estudian para que se perfeccione el aikidōka en su practica diaria.
